Hi all,

Ubuntu 12.04 desktop 64bit

I followed;

1)
How To Install LAMP Server in Ubuntu Server 12.04 LTS
http://ubuntuserverguide.com/2012/05...12-04-lts.html

2)
How to install WordPress in Ubuntu Server 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin
http://ubuntuserverguide.com/2012/05...12-04-lts.html

On running;
$ sudo bash /usr/share/doc/wordpress/examples/setup-mysql -n wordpress_preciseserver blog.preciseserver.com
ping: unknown host blog.preciseserver.com

Please advise how to fix this problem? TIA

Regards

3200 posts and you can't add an entry to /etc/hosts or your DNS server? Come on dude, you're better than that surely? You really should appreciate by now that this error is totally generic and will have absolutely NOTHING to do with wordpress, just base level Linux admin.

add an entry to /etc/hosts or your DNS server.

I got it done.

on /etc/hosts changing the line
Code:
127.0.0.1       localhost
as;
Code:
127.0.0.1       blog.preciseserver.com
WordPress is now running

you changed it to that?? Christ, don't do that! If you can't resolve localhost, lots of other things will break

Congratulations...you've now broken other things. You need to change the actual IP address line to be your host, not the loopback. As acid_kewpie pointed out...you've had over 3200 posts, and have been here for TEN YEARS. By now, you should know how to do such basic things, or research how to modify a hostname.
