problem on converting photos of different aspect ratio into a video with mencoder

I have lots of photos, they are of different aspect ratios, for example: some of them are 2048x1536, the others are 1536x2048.
Now, I want to use mencoder to generate a avi file which can contain all the photos.
However, because of the different aspect ratios of them,
mencoder mf://*.JPG -mf fps=1 -ovc lavc -o out.avi
some photos displayed in out.avi are squished.

any suggestion?

I'm not sure how to do it exactly, but I'm certain you can use the convert (imagemagick) command to batch-process all the images into fields of the same size before putting them through mencoder.

I'm guessing that the -resize and -extent options are probably the ones you want to look at. See here: http://www.imagemagick.org/script/convert.php
