Problem of Tomcat

Hi, I just installed tomcat in my Mandrake10

After I set all the path ready, reboot my computer
and I go to tomcat directory and type: bin/startup.sh
It says permission denied

And I switch to root and try again, it says perimission denied as well, what's the problem? Any help please!

Thank you!

try (as root if nessecary):

chmod a+x tomcat_directory_name
cd tomcat_directory_name
chmod a+x bin

when i say "bin" i mean ./tomcat_directory_name/bin

you may also need to:

chmod a+x tomcat_directory_name/bin/startup.sh

I can run startup.sh now. When I run it, the command line gives response:
Using CATALINA_BASE: /home/chinaundead/tomcat/jakarta-tomcat-4.1.30
Using CATALINA_HOME: /home/chinaundead/tomcat/jakarta-tomcat-4.1.30
Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /home/chinaundead/tomcat/jakarta-tomcat-4.1.30/temp
Using JAVA_HOME: /home/chinaundead/java/j2sdk1.4.2_04

Is this response right?

When I go to Firefox, and type http://localhost:8080/index.html, it doesn't work, the webpage says:

HTTP Status 404 - /index.html

type Status report

message /index.html

description The requested resource (/index.html) is not available.
Apache Tomcat/4.1.30

Any solutions?

I delete everything of Tomcat, redownload it, reconfig, then it works

I just do all the same thing, don't know why this time it works.

Anyway, thank you for all your helps!
