A) There is probably a fine package 'stardict' for your OS.
B) It is possible to compile 'Stardict'.
.. Dependencies to be used:
1) 'intltool'
2) 'Gucharmap' > 'libgucharmap5-devel'
3) 'Festival' > 'festival-devel'
3a) 'Speech_tools' > 'libspeech_tools1-static-devel'
4) 'Espeak' > 'libespeak1-devel'
5) 'libglib1.2-devel'
6) 'libgtk1.2-devel'
7) 'Enchant' > 'libenchant1-devel'
+++ and all the interdependecies which are installed, when you are using your
package manager to install 1)...7)
*** Packages have different names on different OS's
*** e.g. given above are from PCLinuxOS2007.
C) Things to do to circumvent bugs :
a) # ln -s /usr/include/EST/*.h /usr/local/include/ (space between .h and /..)
b) # ln -s /usr/include/EST/sigpr/*.h /usr/local/include/ (space between .h and /..)
c) # touch /usr/local/include/est_string_config.h
d) # touch /usr/include/EST/est_string_config.h
----
E) Important: The included file 'configure' will produce an unusable 'Makefile'
!! So please write a new one with command ./autogen.sh (writes a 'Makefile' too)
Next you can run ./configure, if you want --options, else just run 'make'
....
Good luck !
PS.:Your 'gucharmap' is probably OK, just a poor 'configure'
