Problem installing screensaver...

Hello everybody, must admit to being very new to Linux so if this sounds liek a stupid question just tell me to shut up. First some info: SuSE 9.0, Kernel 2.4, KDE 3.1.

I'm, trying to install the kfiresaver downloaded from KDE-look. I've downloaded the file and uncompressed it into /opt/kde3/share/apps/amor/firesaver. This worked fine, I'm noe told I need to ./configure then make and make install. Problem is the./configure gives me this output...
(Sorry its a bit long, not sure how much is relevant!)

Thanks

It sounds like you need to install something like

X Window development libraries.

If you're compiling for X windows you'll need files that aren't
loaded by default.

Have a look in the yast for software, package-groups,
development libraries bit and look
for X Window development, kit/libraries/headers or anything suspicious.

It's probably missing these.
(Then you'll get missing zlibs or something ;-) )
If you have space and intend to do a lot of ./configure-ing
why not chuck everything like libraries and development stuff on?

hopefully some help...

Thanks, I'll give that a shot when I get home tonight. Thought I'd already installed all these but worth checking I guess.

Stay tuned for more newbie questions!

Well I gave it a shot and also installed all the c++ and gcc components I could find... You were right about the zlibs (whatever they are!) This was the output of the ./configure...

Well, now you have to install the zlibs!

Try ./configure --help
there's probably an option like

--without-zlib-support or similar.

or get 'em from
http://www.gzip.org/zlib/

if they ain't on your distro disks.
keep pluggin' away, and you'll be doing it in your sleep!

Bingo!!!

It seems to be working now, I've installed all the dev. libraries I could find on the distro disks so that ./ config works with no errors. make then make install also seems to be ok, but now I have no option to choose this screen saver in the configure desktop screen. I presume I've just put it in the wrong directory? Any idea where the screen savers should go?

Many thanks for the help by the way, nice to find someone with the patience to help.
