Problem Installing Nvidia Drivers

I'm running Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit.
I try to install the drivers for my graphics card using System->Administration->Hardware Drivers but the progress bar remains at 0 for a while then crashes and shows this error.

Sorry, the Jockey backend crashed. Please file a bug at:

ubuntu-bug jockey-common

Trying to recover by restarting backend.

Apparently this is quite a common error but I m unable to find a solution, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I can confirm this bug on Ubuntu 9.04 64bit Desktop on a AMD dual core (X2)

I have a work-around for those who need it: http://timashley.me/node/110
