Problem in installing Mplayer on fedora 6!


Hi all,

I am quite new to linux. When I try to install Mplayer using I get the
following message

sudo yum -y install mplayer mplayer-skins mplayer-fonts mplayerplug-in
Password:

I THINK that mplayer require proprietary codecs and therefore is not in Fedora's standard repos. The version that I use is from Livna but I believe freshrpms also has it. It is best to use only one non-fedora repo. Mixing repos can lead to bad things.

Those packages are already installed. That is what the message means. Look for a sticky in the Fedora forum about adding a repository that has versions of media programs and libraries that can play back propriety formats.

As I am new to linux i donno much abt these things. How to I find a repository that has versions of media programs and libraries which enable me to play videos??

Most of the forums on this site have a sticky in one of the first posts with the repositories to add and instructions on how to add them. You may want to uninstall mplayer and xine and then reinstall them from the packages on the new repository.
