Problem in creating filesystem for newly created partition.

Hi ,

I created a new partition using fdisk, but when i tried to create ext3 filesystem on the newly created partition i get the following error.
Command : mkfs.ext3 -c /dev/hda4
Output :
mke2fs 1.32
/dev/hda4 : not enough space to build proposed filesystem while reading superblock.

/dev/hda4 was alloted the 6GB free space in the machine which i confirmed by running option "p" with "fdisk" command

If anyone had come across the problem mentioned, Please help.

umm, what type of partition is it?

the reason i ask is that for most people the 4th partition should be a extended partition ... that way they can have many more partitions beyond 4

I have created a new partition. It is not a extended partition.
Given below is the output of print in fdisk.

/dev/hda1 * 1 13 104391 83 Linux
/dev/hda2 14 1160 9213277+ 83 Linux
/dev/hda3 1161 1225 522112+ 82 Linux swap
/dev/hda4 1226 2096 6996307+ 83 Linux
