Problem encoding Divx with Dvd::Rip

If I try to encode a ripped vob to a divx file the Dvd::rip program craps out on me. I think it is because i don't have xvid4conf installed. But I'm a newbie and I don't know how to install if I'm not using a rpm file. Any suggestions.

Thanks.
