Problem configuring and connecting to vsftpd
Hi, I've installed vsftpd and as far as I can tell my configuration file is how I want it. However, when I connect to the server I receive errors like this:

So you know, I have a router which is configured to forward port 21 to port 21 on my box here. That's all working fine and dandy. That's all I've done with it... Is there anything else that may need configuring on the router that I've missed? Thanks very much for any help here. |
Anybody?

One last try here...

I don't use Debian, so I can only say that it looks like the server end is the problem. There is communication between the client and the server across the router, but the FTP service seems to be failing to read the user's home directory. Try looking at the server log to see if it says what is going wrong.
You can always connect to the FTP service with a command-line client whilst on the server itself, to prove that the same problem occurs when the network isn't involved (or not). I suppose I ought to add the usual "use SSH, it's safer and less hassle" bit as well. HTH (a little) |
try this as root: modprobe capability
Hi
I had this problem too. Try typing this as root: modprobe capability It worked for me. Also remember to add it to /etc/modules so that that module loads when you reboot your server too. Edward |
