Probelm with /usr/X11R6/bin/X file

I did some changes to the files in /usr/X11R6/bin/ some weeks ago and now I found out that booting in init 3, running the command startx does not work due to not having the file /usr/X11R6/bin/X .

From what I've understood, I need a file

/usr/X11R6/bin/X

and a link

/var/X11R6/bin/X

to the /usr file

Unfortunately, the /usr/X11R6/bin/X backup file I have is broken - it uses 3d acceleration, not supported by my laptop, and so startx is sluggish.

Where can I find a backup file to put in /usr/X11R6/bin so that startx runs normally again?

Bare in mind that if I start Suse on graphical mode, it runs well. Only booting in init 3 and running startx does not work.

using Slackware-10.2 as a reference i can see that /usr/X11R6/bin/X is just a symlink to /usr/X11R6/bin/Xorg you might be able to fix this by making a symlink...

run this:

ln -s /usr/X11R6/bin/Xorg /usr/X11R6/bin/X

ln -s /usr/X11R6/bin/Xorg /usr/bin/X

Hmm...the problem is that I don't have a /usr/X11R6/bin/Xorg file...

ouch! you may have to re-install your xorg package to get that, anyway by re-installing the xorg package it should solve your X problem too...

I've found the Xorg file in /user/bin/Xorg.

Now what's happening is relatively odd. If I perform startx with my user, it loads KDE with sluggish performance, as if it has Xgl 3D desktop enabled (and therefore not working well).

If I startx as root, it boots gnome and everything is ok.
If I let linux boot in X, it loads my user's KDE well and I can work.

I removed both Xgl and Compiz packages and afterwards startx will not start at all:

Code:
Fatal server error:
No GLX modules loaded
dlopen: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/xgl/libxgl.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Where can startx be doing something different from regular boot so it tries to load Xgl or 3D-like environment?

compiz & beryl are two packages i never used, i am unsure what either one does during install, they could possibly remove a file or two that belong to Xorg and replace them with ones of their own in order to get the eye candy effects, if you want to restore your system to factory defaults i suggest removing compiz and re-install xorg...
