Printer tools not work with CUPS

hi,
i am using Epson stylus C79 in FC7.
i am using a driver that i have downloaded from Epson Official support site. it work well with CUPS but the only problem is that the tools that are provided by this driver ,for example tools that are used for nozzle check or head cleaning only support LPRng. i want to know how can i do these job in CUPS, i mean Head cleaning and Nozzle check and so on.

should i use any 3rd party software to do that!?
tnx

Try escputil, the epson stylus printer utilities. It's probably available in your repositories. It's a command-line tool, but I know the kde printer settings interface can call it up, at least. I believe it communicates directly with the printer and doesn't depend on which printing system you use.

Edit: Actually, escputil might not work currently in kde due to some kind of access bug. You can try changing the device to /dev/usb/lp0, but even that might not work. The cli commands should work though.

Also, there's another utility called mtink that provides some of the same functions for some Epson printers.
