Preventing multiple instances of MPlayer (GUI)

I've just installed MPlayer on my Fedora Core 4 installation and I've set up file associations so that I can double click an MP3, AVI, etc and it will open up in MPlayer (or gmplayer being the GUI version). I would like it though, so that when I double click a video it stops previous video / tune and starts playing new file in the existing window. At the moment, it just spawns multiple instances so they all play over the top of each other. I was using MPlayer in SuSE before this and I can't remember it doing it then. Any ideas?

Plus.. just to squeeze it in!... any idea how to get MPlayer to stream files from a Samba share? Wants to make a local copy of the whole file first at the moment.

Well, I don't know the answer, and in fact I have been trying to find this out myself, so I'll just make this post to bump your thread and see if someone knows...
