Hi all,

How was your easter weekend? mine wasfine, thnks for asking

anyways, i did a install on a new disk last week and now i wanted to stick the disk in my server (yes other hardware) and i hoped it would go on and boot wiith maybe some hardware issues.

but now it dies on me while booting. it tells me

ALERT! /dev/hda3 does not exist. Dropping to a shell.

i really dont have a clue what i should or can do. so if anybody has a tip i would be very greatfull (as always)

That is a bit odd.

Since this is the same disk, the partition table is no different.

The only thing I could think of is that the HDD is not the primary master. If it is secondary master, it would be detected by the kernel as hdc, and so it could not mount the root file system since the device is not correct.

The easiest way to see this is to boot a LiveCD, and see what it reports your HDD as. If it shows it as anything by hda, pull out all the IDE device, and start all over again with the setup, making sure the HDD with Ubuntu installed is the primary master.

Also, I assume that the drive is connected to the onboard IDE controller in this new machine, and not though a PCI IDE controller, or anything like that?
