Powering off...

How do you let Linux power off the monitor after xx minutes of inactivity? Here's the scenario:

I have two Linux boxes connected to one monitor. The monitor has two inputs, so that's no brainer. It has a button on the front panel to switch between the inputs.

One (A) is the Linux workstation I use every day. The other (B) is the Linux server. I use graphical login (gdm) on A, and text login on B.

The problem is, A is power management aware and shuts down the monitor after 30 minutes (the value I set) of inactivity., but B doesn't do that. As the result, the monitor is always on since it will automatically switch to input B when there's no signal coming from input A.

What can I do to make B aware of energy saving?

TIA,
Dai

Perhaps I can interest you in some of these options:
Quote:
-powersave powerdown
Puts the monitor into VESA powerdown mode.
-powersave [off]
Turns off monitor VESA powersaving features.
-powerdown [0-60]
Sets the VESA powerdown interval in minutes. Without an argument, defaults to 0 (disable powerdown). If the console is blanked or the monitor is in suspend mode, then the monitor will go into vsync suspend mode or powerdown mode respectively after this period of time has elapsed.
