PostNuke Apache MySQL RedHat

OK trying to get PN running.
Apache installed. check
MySQL. check
PHP. check
run PostNuke install.php
and
Code:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: mysql_pconnect() in /var/www/html/install/newinstall.php on line 36

Line 36 is where the DB is queried.

Code:
mysql_pconnect($dbhost, $dbuname, $dbpass);
So I haven't set the DB password....look up the means of setting pass.

says do
/usr/bin/mysqladmin -u root -p password 'new_pass'

Uhoh no mysqladmin on my box!!!

Anyone know where I can find it or how to set the password manually or any other work around?

Sounds to me like php might not be configured with mysql support.

If your php install is from the redhat cd's, be sure to also install php-mysql.rpm
