Postfix wil not accept external mail
Hello dude's & dudetes
here I am again with another silly question, after a month of experimenting with Liniux I did a reinstall of the complete distro ( RH8.0) last weekend. This was necesary because I was getting many errors when I did try to start my apache and postfix daemons... Now everything seem to work fine again but now I got another serious problem.... :study: I did install POSTFIX on the system so I shut be able to send and receive mail via my own host... this seems to work fine when sending internal mails, everything is getting on his place.I did test the mailserver for receiving mail from external networks( internet ) but this seems to go wrong all the way. I'm using the standard 2.18.x.x. kernel that is installed with RH8.0 Postfix shut be version postfix-1.1.11 i receive my mail via eth0 and also did try all Any help is welcome :Pengy: |
What goes wrong? What does the /var/log/maillog say? Where does it fail? A little more info is needed please..

Hello
It seems that almost everything works. I can send and receive mail on my internal network, also sending mail to the internet seems to work fine. But, I still have a problem with receiving mail from the internet. I did try to setup my config file using other listening adresses but nothing helps. Also made a call to my ISP but they won't tell they block it or not... but I think they do ( an the reason I am setting this up is because of the delay on their mailserver for about !6! hours, minor problem with it they say!?! ) Now I am planing to use a bypass on a friends machine, his ISP not blocks port 25 so that shut work. Here is the logfile... Jun 17 15:58:41 rabbit postfix/smtpd[5262]: 2AB2E10D31: client=localhost[127.0.0.1] Jun 17 15:58:41 rabbit postfix/cleanup[5263]: 2AB2E10D31: message-id=<200306171958.h5HJwep0005260@rabbit.homelinux.org> Jun 17 15:58:41 rabbit postfix/nqmgr[3989]: 2AB2E10D31: from=<rikke@rabbit.homelinux.org>, size=885, nrcpt=1 (queue active) Jun 17 21:58:41 rabbit sendmail[5260]: h5HJwep0005260: to=jorre@rabbit.homelinux.org, ctladdr=rikke (500/500), delay=00:00:01, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=relay, pri=30065, relay=localhost.homelinux.org. If that message to rikke@rabbit.homelinux.org was no sent from a machine inside the network, then apparently the problem is the next hop. Did you send that message from inside or outside? If the words connected with other than 127.0.0.1 appear in an entry than you can rule out the firewall. It does appear that the server ad.skynet.be is refusing your connections. That is not likely your isp's fault.

rabbit.homelinux.org is my host and yes I did send that message internal...
iptables do accept connections on port 25 my ISP is skynet.be so I really think they are blokking the port 25 incoming it seems that 80.201.149.139 is one of the dns servers on my provider side. what can I do now |
Hey again,
I did restart my postfix and it came up with the folowing in the logfile.. Jun 18 10:45:42 rabbit postfix/postfix-script: warning: /var/spool/postfix/etc/localtime and /etc/localtime differ Jun 18 10:45:42 rabbit postfix/postfix-script: starting the Postfix mail system Jun 18 10:45:42 rabbit postfix/master[1589]: daemon started Jun 18 04:45:43 rabbit postfix/nqmgr[1591]: 278E010C9D: from=<rikke@rabbit.homelinux.org>, size=589, nrcpt=1 (queue active) Now in main.vf the listen to address is my ppp0 so that shut be my adsl connection right... Still not receiving on the internet side öö * --- |
You have set all your relevent domain names in both the $mydestination setting in main.cf and in the transport table (if forwarding to another mail server). If all possible domains for you are not listed in $mydestination, it will reject everything from the web.
I know many isp's are blocking some common inbound ports like 80 and 25 to prevent home users from running servers. I would demand the list of blocked ports from the isp or find a different one that allows incoming 25 connections. |
That could be the prob, in main.cf $mydestination is set to ppp0 an,d that is my dsl connection, now I am going to change that to my domain, lets hope this works
thx for al the tips |
Still got probs after changing it
my main.cf is now online in a new tread maybe someone can find the error and solve the problem that way |
