Postfix + Squirrelmail help

I am setting up a Postfix mail server, and attempting to get Squirrelmail working along with it for webmail access. The server is working for the most part, as I can send mail out, but so far I haven't been able to receive anything yet. In Squirrelmail, if I try a simple fetch to pull mail off of a pop3 server, I get the error:

"Error Appending Message! APPEND failed: Can't open append mailbox: Permission Denied"

I'm thinking this is also why I'm not receiving any mail from anywhere else either, but I don't know where to look to check permissions. Does anyone have a Postfix server running with Squirrelmail? I'm using mailboxes on the server itself, but I wasn't sure where in the Squirrelmail config to point the mailboxes at.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Well...

:)

You also need an IMAP server for Squirrelmail. I use Postfix as well, but the mediator is the IMAP server, which I use courier-imap, a great tool.

In Postfix's main.cf I also choose to use Maildir's as they are more secure and just seem to make more sense to me personally. Then, I use courier-imap as it works with Maildir's and finally, tell squirrelmail that I'm using Courier and it sets it all up to work accordingly for me.

If you've got postfix up and working, squirrelmail up, then install an IMAP, and you should be well on your way with a few very small tweaks here and there.

Good Luck!

Cool

What exactly does it mean to use Maildir? I have a Postfix mail server installed and working fine, and I'm considering adding a webmail program to it. I'm leaning toward the squirrelmail and IMAP installation.

Is this the website for the courier-imap that you speak of:

Thanks.

Thanks for the subbestions, but I think I got things working finally. I'm using the IMAP server capabilities built in with RedHat 9, as I could never get Courier IMAP to install correctly.. it always came back with some kind of strange error. So, I set up my postfix mail using users on the mail server itself. Then, I set up Squirrelmail and set up the SMTP type to SMTP, and the mail type to other. Then, after a lot of trouble, I think I have spamassassin working as well on the server, marking messages that reach a certain score with the subject ***SPAM***.

So, while it may not be the best or most secure approach, at least everything is finally working.
