Postfix Mailserver sticking localhost in after @ in return address

I have installed Postfix on a server running RedHat 9 and I can send and recieve mail. The only problem is when I send out a message it sticks localhost into my return address.

For instance if my email address is supposed to be;
stupidmoron@idiot.com
postfix sends it out with a return address of
stupidmoron@localhost.idiot.com

So this means that when someone tried to reply to a message I send it doesn't work.
Also if a site is running spam software that checks to see if the return address is valid before delivering the message It won't deliver any of my messages.

tia,
Paul

Had the same problem unfortunately though it's using send mail

I got it going alright by explicitly setting the domain name in the cf file where it says to -

originally it was: Dj$e.mydomain.com (think it was an e lol)

when I changed it to Djmydomain.com everything worked fine after taking out the $ variable, more perserverence than knowledge at the moment that got it going.

Maybe there's something similar in the Postfix cf

Update

I checked my configuration and the "myorigin" variable is set the way it is supposed to be. Do you think I eed to set up an alias? I have been looking through the config and it just doesn't make sense. I will post a copy of my main.cf file in my next post.

Thanks again
Paul

It looks like you are right. I was testing it with webmail. I am using squirrelmail for my webmail. When I sent a message via pop3 it went out fine.

Now I just need to find out why squirrelmail is adding the localhost in there. I will repost when I find out.

Thank a bunch mcleodnine!

It was an easy fix. I just had to set the name of my domain in the Squirrelmail configuration file.

Thanks for the help
