postfix mailbox location

Hi,

I was wondering, if I use
home_mailbox = Maildir/

which location will that end up in? var/mail or in the /home/user/Mailbox dir??

I'm a bit confused about this (as always! )

From the postconf(5) man page:
Quote:
The precedence of local(8) delivery features from high to
low is: aliases, .forward files, mailbox_transport_maps,
mailbox_transport, mailbox_command_maps, mailbox_command,
home_mailbox, mail_spool_directory, fallback_trans?
port_maps, fallback_transport and luser_relay.
So, if you did not override home_mailbox with something of greater precedence, local mail should be delivered to $HOME/Maildir/. Note that this is a maildir rather than an mbox, because you specified a trailing slash.

thanks Berhanie, that's really helpful. I am indeed going to use Mailbox and not mbox as I need Public folders.

edit:

I meant Maildir, not Mailbox!

Either maildir or mbox can be used for public folders. It's often the IMAP server which forces you to decide between mbox and maildir.

I'm using Dovecot and, as far as I understand (which ain't far!), it uses public folders through maildir

Ah. Ok. I didn't know that about Dovecot. I thought Dovecot was the only one which didn't force you to choose.
