Portsentry installation

-i have a problem installing portsentry. i downloaded the lates version of portsentry from sourceforge in linux desktop.
-i went to the terminal window and extract portsentry. once extracted i went to the portsentry folder and type make then a message appear to install i should use "make install". once i type make install it copies the files to its directory but an error showed saying that "./portsentry no such file or directory. where could that be?

Just a quick check - you're doing the 'make install' portion as root, correct?

Portsentry is unmaintained and AFAIK unsupported. In short it's deprecated and flawed.
Please consider Snort, Prelude or similar.

-yes i am using root.
-yes i am also trying snort. so portsentry is nolonger unsupported and so not adviseable?

SBN prefer to download stuff from your distrubution's repositires , via synaptic , kpackage or other appropriate programme so you may save yourself from dependencies problem as well... moreover it is advisible to choose a programme that is being maintained so i strongly suggest you to download either portsentry or similar product from repository
what repository aka repo
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repository
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Package_management
hope it helps
