Portable Inkscape for Linux?
 

Hello,

I am running Linux at school and inkscape is not installed. I wish I had the admin ;)

There is debian sid.

Would you know a link to x86 inkspace portable for Linux?

Can you explain what you mean by x86 inkspace[sic] portable for Linux? I know you mean "inkscape" but I don't understand the sense of "portable". Do you want to install software without having admin privileges?

Ask the admin for this app. You know we shouldn't tell you how to bypass this stuff.

i think it's a valid question, and it should be possible without "bypassing" anything.

actually i even remember a solution, which i found long ago... i will skim through my forum posts, maybe i can find it again.
it was an application that basically packs everything you need (copies it from your system) in a directory structure with the program you want to run. like portableapps for linux.

It would be hard to install a private copy because inkscape needs many libraries, python modules, Imagemagick, etc. All of these would have to be installed privately if they did not exist on the system, maybe in a whole chroot filesystem. Simpler is to run a remote X session using Cygwin, or run an rdesktop to a remote Windows that has inkscape installed. Another way would be to take a working linux image that has it and run it in a VM.

Having a static Inkscape would indeed not be a trivial thing seeing the long list of dependencies, but I would think that having Inkscape on a school computer is a reasonable request, for which I would ask the admin.

Proper or not request I can't say. I can say that the admin didn't give permission to install stuff. Logically, one would then request it.
