Poroblems in the installation of SIM(SImply Instant Massanger)
Hi, I want to install a program called "SIM" so I have downloaded it from sourceforge and extract it from the tar and configure it... now when I get to the 'make' part i'm doing 'make' and somewhere it stucks and tell me:
" WARNING: 'automake-1.7' is needed, and you do not seem to have it handy on your system. You might have modified some files without having the proper tools for further handling them. Check the 'README' file, it often tells you about the needed prerequirements for installing this package. You may also peek at any GNU archive site, in case some other package would conatin this missing 'automake-1.7' program. make[2]: *** [Makefile.in] Error 1 make[2]: Leaving directory '/usr/local/sim-0.9.2/plugins/_core' make[1]: ***[all-recursive] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory '/usr/local/sim-0.9.2' make: *** [all] Error 2 " Then I read the README file and nothing there was saying about prerequirements things... so I thought maybe I dont have automake. I went to the GNU site and downloaded it, while i'm configuring it, it stucks and says: " configure: error: The installed version of autoconf does not work. Plewase check config.log for error messages before this one. " Then I went to the GNU site again and downloaded autoconf, configure it and installed it... all went good... but it still saying me that error in automake and I dont know what to do! Maybe I should run the autoconf things... but how do I do that? |
OK now I'm trying to install the RPM package of SIM and i'm doing
" rpm -ihv sim-0.9.2-2mdk.i586.rpm " and the errors I get are: " warning: sim-0.9.2-2mdk.i586.rpm: V3 DSA signature: NOKEY, key ID 26752624 error: Failed dependencies: libXinerama.so.1 is needed by sim-0.9.2-2mdk libXss.so.1 is needed by sim-0.9.2-2mdk libc.so.5 is needed by sim-0.9.2-2mdk libm.so.2 is needed by sim-0.9.2-2mdk libsimapi.so.0 is needed by sim-0.9.2-2mdk libsimui.so.0 is needed by sim-0.9.2-2mdk libstdc++.so.4 is needed by sim-0.9.2-2mdk " Really I dont have any idea what to do... In the first time I installed mandarke(a year ago) all went well but now the third time I installed it I have some problems... |
well if you are feelign adventerous you could just do:
rpm -ivh --nodeps --force <package name> i dont guarantee this will work..infact it might screw up other things...but i have made this work many times. |
I did it and it and it was installed successfuly but when I run SIM it just thinks and thinks and in the end it closes the program...
any way what are those dependencies? where can I get them and what is the warning msg mean? |
well you can try to solve the dependency issues by going to rpmfind.net and looking for each of the missing dependencies and then installing them.
It will be a pain but you migght just learn from it. personally i never liked rpm''s and hence i shifted to debian...it is the best distro ever...period. |
As I told I'm not using linux alot of time... and I dont know many things.. And I ,like you, dont like rpm's too but I got another problem when I tryed to install the source as I told before... so I gues I'll go and find some dependencies in RPMFIND
tahnks :) |
Damn... I can't find anywhere the
libXinerama.so.1 there is now package called libXinerama in rpmfind and I didn't find it :\ |
http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/se...bXinerama.so.1
seems like you need to download the latest XFree server....why dont you try using an older version of SIM or try solving other dependencies and then reinstall SIM with the RPM and see if it still does not work...then you can go to installing the new X server. |
