popup/ad blocker

Does anyone know of a good popup killer? I tried Firebird (browser) but I kept getting weird website links when I used the location bar (I would click on CNN and would get a Payforsurveys.com tab/website popup).

Try Murty's Ad Blocker http://freshmeat.net/projects/mblock...ic_id=90%2C253

I have not used firebird, but I think it would have the same option as mozilla to turn of popups. Go in preferences-Advanced-Scripts and plugins and uncheck the box that say open unrequested windows. And you will never be bothered by unwanted popups again.

Mozilla, Firebird and Konqueror all have options to block popups in their preferences dialogs.

To go another step, you can also install Privoxy, an ad-blocking web proxy.

I don't use Privoxy personally because I wish to allow non-popup banner ads to display. Sites like linuxquestions.org desperately need the ad money, and as long as the ads aren't too obnoxious (popups are too obnoxious) I'll tolerate them.

But that's just me.

Privoxy works great for me. I love seeing all these ads on obnoxious ad sites be suddenly changed into big checkered blocks.
Although I currently have major problems visiting this site with it :(
