pop3 inside and outside LAN

I'm using outlook express to retrieve my email from my sendmail server. When I'm at work I can use mail.myregistereddomain.com to get my email. But when I come home and try the same thing it doesn't work. Although if I use 192.168.0.9, the ip of my email server, it works just like it did at work. Do I have something set up wrong?

From the looks of what you describe, your email server is on YOUR LAN.

add an entry in /etc/hosts that says
192.168.0.9 mail.yourdomain.com

then access the mail server with its full hosts name.

Your machine is just simply not resolving mail.whatever.com to 192.168.0.9 .
on your lans side.
