what is polarhome.com about othere then charging you 2 dallors to access there kernel.....

Can someone give me the downlow on this....

Have you read the policy? they are a non-profit org and would probably like some help with cost of running and maintaining the system.

I believe that this is fairly common - even though the servers are retired ones, they still need parts/software updates and someone there has to make sure that the rules and regs are upheld. It sounds like a payment of between 2USD and 10 of your local currency (whichever is higher)is a small price to pay.

my question is why use this site when you can download a copy of most linux distro's for free and learn by using the system....

I think that it is a useful system to use if you need servers but can't afford to buy one or run it - also useful if you are studying for a cert and just want a server for the lifetime of your training.

If you can't think of a use for it, it's probably not something you need.
