poblems PCI Creative Ensonic 1371 soundcard

Hi all,

to start with: im new to linux, but i cant get my soundcard ensoto work.
I found a tutorial telling me howto set things up, but then i run into more problems. The tutorial is at http://www.geocities.com/tipsforlinux/articles/2.html. When im at step 2 in the tutotial and i do 'make install' i got the following result:

[root@ alsa-driver-0.5.10]# make install
make dep

Hi appie,

You should download the latest version of alsa at www.alsa-project.org

The latest version is 0.9.6 and you're more likely to successfully install the driver with it than the previous old versions.

That's a pretty common (and old) soundcard. Surely Mandrake 9.1 (if that's what you're using) can use that without installing ALSA.

Have you looked at the Mandrake docs on getting sound working? Unfortunately sound is one of those things that seems to be different for every flavor of linux.

Hi appie,

You should visit the following link which contains the instructions from alsa as to how to install the drivers for your card:

Link: here

Basically, you have to run configure telling it what sound driver you want to install before running make install.

Cheers,
Alf829
