png.. how compatible is it with browsers...

Could some one shed some lite...

I have created a png Img with a trasparent background...

When I view thie image on a Linux box, regardless of browser. It is displayed coretecly.. (Checked on Mozilla, Konqurer, & Opera)

When I view this Image on an Windows box, (WinNT, 2000 & 98... all with IE)

With Opera 5.12 , & IE 6.0 (on the WinNT)

the Image has a white back ground..

When viewed with Netscape 6.2 (on the WinNT)
The image is displayed correctly.

I can take a screen shot.. it that would help anyone...

I may be wrong, but I've hear there is a plugin for IE.
Png is better than gif, so it's a good ide to use it (but maybe without transparent background).

Is it that the background of the image is white, or is it that the background of the image is transparent and the background to the application is white (as is the default for IE - don't know about the others)?
