PLIP goes the weasel...
...if we can get it working.
Thanks to any of you pros who might take the time to help out a future Linux lover. Attempting to complete install of Tiny Linux on laptop with AMD-486DX4 without CD-ROM using PLIP. We've got a working system, however cannot establish any kind of network connection to complete installation. Before reformatting the HD, Windows 98 reported 0x378 and no IRQ for LPT1. AMIBIOS confirms address 378 for parallel port. We have followed all the HOWTOs we can find. Here are the results of all commands. cat /proc/parport/0/hardware base: 0x378 irq: none dma: none modes: SPP,ECP,ECPPS2 insmod parport /lib/modules/2.2.6/misc/parport.o: a module named parport already exists insmod parport_pc /lib/modules/2.2.6/misc/parport_pc.o: a module named parport_pc already exists echo 7 > /proc/parport/0/irq returns to # with no error insmod plip returns to # with no error tail /var/log/messages cs: memory probe 0x0d000-0x0dffff:clean tty01 at 0x02f8 (irq=3) is a 16550A ROOT LOGIN on 'tty1' NET3 PLIP version 2.3-parport gniibe@mri.co.jp plip0: Parallel port at 0x378, using IRQ 7 ifconfig plip0 127.0.0.1 pointopoint 64.214.176.86 netmask 255.255.255.255 up returns to # with no error ifconfig plip0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr FC:FC:7F:00:00:01 inet addr:127.0.0.1 P-t-P:64.214.176.86 Mask:255.255.255.255 UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MTU:1500 Metric:1 RX packets................... When doing Autoprobe, we received "Can't find the device on your system." Trying about any conceivable variation on manual configuration yielded the same result. BTW, we attempting to connect to a Win/DOS target. Thanks so much if you managed to get this far, and even more if you have any ideas.:) |
