Please help with Ubuntu
Hello everyone.
Yesterday I downloaded Ubuntu wanting to try it. When it finished downloading, I burnind the Iso on to a disc at 8x. Turned off computer, changed cd-rom to first boot priority, put in the disc and restarted. The Ubuntu screen came up, I hit enter on Run or Install, and in upacks all the stuff then says: Uncompressing Linux... Ok, booting the kernel. It stops right there. I tried installing it on my brothers computer, and it worked. I also tried changing the cd-drive on my computer, and the hard drive, and no sucess. *I also have a pressed versionm, but no luck either. Specs: X2 3800\ 7800 GTX 200 GB WD 2 GB XMS A8N*32 CD BURNER and shit. |
Chances are that the kernel that comes with Ubuntu doesn't know
the chipset of your brand-new shiny motherboard. A good rule of thumb for Linux & Hardware is NOT to go for bleeding edge, but rather to lag behind at least 3-4 months (will keep your wallet happier, too). Have a google for linux and our motherboard. Cheers, Tink |
