please help me get mldonkey going on mandrake

hello

i am trying to get mldonkey to run on mandrake.

i installed the rpm using urpmi mldonkey, and installing what it gave me.

i think it installed, but there might be problems with installation? or perhaps (hopefully) i am just doing something wrong.

i go to command line and type

mldonkey

and it gives me a whole bunch of output, but no screen comes up, it just hangs at the line

Disabling output to console, to enable: stdout true

i don't know what i am doing wrong or what else i need to do

please help i will do just about anything to get it working at this point!!

p.s. i don't know if this helps, but the first error it gives is

Error loading ./comments.met: Sys_error("./comments.met: No such file or directory")

IIRC you have to start mldonkey in a console and then mldonkey_gui. It should be in the menu under Networking -> Other, but you can run it from (another) console as well.

In a GUI go to File -> Settings and then under Client -> Startup check "Start mldonkey_gui at beginning". Under "Name of MLdonkey GUI to start" type

/usr/lib/mldonkey/mlgui

and under "Path of mldonkey binaries" type /usr/lib/mldonkey

That should ensure that the GUI starts automatically.

The mldonkey program per se is just the core that needs to be running in the background. When you close the GUI make sure the core has been shut down as well.

Mldonkey is running at that point.Normally it would ask you if you want a gui or not by then but I got no idea what is or isn't in that rpm.
Just start it and go to http://127.0.0.1:4080 with a browser.

You can also go and install the original binary for mldonkey. It's just a matter of unpacking the tarball. For info and binaries got to http://www.mldonkey.org
