I'm assuming you're using Firefox browser here, right? If so, type this in the address line:

about : plugins (with now spaces)

Let me know if you see anything in there that says something like this:

Quote:
Shockwave Flash

File: libflashplayer.so
Version:
Shockwave Flash 10.2 d161

MIME Type Description Suffixes
application/x-shockwave-flash Shockwave Flash swf
application/futuresplash FutureSplash Player spl

Open a terminal.
Type
Code:
sudo cp libflashplayer.so /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/
restart firefox

Kind regards

That's not a Mozilla site. That's an html document generated by Firefox and stored on your system. It tells you all the plugins that you have enabled within Firefox. If you did not see what I mentioned above, then you did not properly install the Flash plugin. You can find more detailed instructions on how to properly install the Flash plugin here --> http://www.psychocats.net/ubuntu/flash

Come back and let us know if you were successful.

Have you tried the flash-aid addon for firefox? When I first started with ubuntu it was a godsend for me.

In Firefox, Tools > Addons > Get Add-ons. Search for "flash-aid". Click Add to Firefox. Restart mozilla, follow the prompts.

Cheers,
Chris

I tried all of the above with no resolution. I also can't seem to install anything else. I don't know how to log in as the superuser either. All the guides I could find have been unhelpful giberish to me, and completely overwhelming, often assuming a vocabulary I don't yet have. I'm drowning, I'm considering getting a whole new computer with windows pre-installed. Can anyone throw me a life ring?

I would suggest to start a new thread for your problem, instead of highjacking this one, which is marked solved BTW.
Give as much info as possible, and we will try to help you.

KInd regards
