Unhappy Playing Media files on Suse 9.3

I've been having problems playing MP3 files with any players provided by Suse9.3 except for RealPlayer. I wanted a program that can do auto-repeat other than me pushing the play button all the time. I tried using the commands play <mp3 file> and it failed saying mp3 file is an unknown file type. So I figured maybe I'm missing the mpeg libraries. Right now it's really fustrating. I tried to look for ways to install the libraries but I couldn't find one made for Suse 9.3. Where can I get these files? How do I go about installing them? Can someone walk me through? I'm a complete noob at this =S
