playing games with xmame

Greetings! I've manage to install xmame.SDL in my SuSE 9.3 box. The problem is I can't load most games. I even transfered the roms to xmame's default rom path as described in /etc/xmame/xmame-SDLrc. For example I can load mspacman (damn what a great game), but I cant load super street fighter 2 (ssf2u). The roms are loaded but then xmame complains that they are not found. I remember solving this problem a couple of years back, but I can't remember what I did. Do I have to set an environment variable?

Not sure, but I can't get -ANYTHING- to run under xmame. ROMS that work fine in mama 0.55, 0.65 and 0.77 in DOS/Windows simply refuse to load in xmame, with missing file errors in the ROM zip. I've never been able to find one single ROM that will work under xmame.

Apparently you need to upgrade ALL ROMS when you get a new xmame version to the latest version of that ROM. How and where you are supposed to do this though I have absolutely no idea.

Which is why I gave up emulation gaming under Linux - at least my ROMs work with some versions of DOS / Windows MAME.

have you thought about trying this? Apparently there is no more subscription fee to it anymore.
