This problem began a few weeks ago.

Try to play a MythTv recording, and the screen goes all "static like" then Ubuntu restarts. (worked fine w/o this problem for a number of years)

It is ready for me to log in in only a few seconds, so it is not a full reboot, but all the previously opened programs are now closed.

Nothing similar happens when using any other program.

Ubuntu 10.10
MythTv version 23

AMD Athlon 64X2 5200+
1.9 GiB RAM
70 GiB free HD space

Did you check your xorg log file, mythbackend log file, and syslog file to see if there are any specific errors occurring? It seems like X is being restarted.

There are some System Log viewer: "message" logs that I had tried to understand from some previous days this happened. (Probably not any help)

It happened again today @ Jun 4 15:50:10 so the logs that show that time from today are included.

I can't see what needs to be done from these.

I have finally been able to get back to this problem.

Could this be some sort of "acpid" problem?

When I re-trigger the problem. The syslog System Log Viewer has this log each time I there is a log-out/crash/restart
