pkg-config

I'm trying to install the latest Xine player.. ((0.3.3)) I've unpacked it, and ./configured it only to get a message about it not being able to find glib and that i sould edit the pkg-config to point to it. So I nabbed the 2.0.6 glibs, installed those w/ out a problem. Eventually figured out I had to install the pkg-config program also...so I did. now when I run it I get a message that says my pkg-config is out of date and the above message also..., I'm positive I installed the most recent release. So could anyone walk me through this, keeping in mind that I'm fairly new w/ configuring linux. Thanks to anyone who responds :0) I'm running Mandrake 9.1 w/ kernel 2.4.20.

you probably installed your new pkg-config in a different directory. your path may be set up such that you are still getting your old pkg-config. type "which pkg-config" to find out where pkg-config is coming from. you may want to move it temperarily so that you can revert back to it if the new pkg-config doesn't work.

your shell may require a `rehash` after you move it so that it can find the new pkg-config.

Most software insatlls in /usr/local. You want it to replace the old version, install in /usr.
You may also need to check that it is in your ld path, rerun ldconfig, and regenerate ld.so.cache.
