Pidgin .... I just don't get it
Hi guys,
I'm trying to configure pidgin to access my Yahoo account. I have setup my username and password and Pidgin seemed to accept it. Whenever I try to setup a chat/send a message, nothing happens. It just adds my text to the chat Window and sits there. No message appears on my friends computer so obviously Pidgin isn't making a connection. I have allowed the correct ports through my firewall. I am using Pidgin 2.4.1 on Slackware 12.1. What I don't understand is all the information asked for by Pidgin when setting up the account, and I don't know what format it expects my answers. What's the difference between screen name and alias? Do I use just my Yahoo ID or my whole Yahoo email address? Do I have to mess about with servers? How come there are no tutorials for Yahoo, but a shed load for Googletalk (not that they are particularly simple)? I'm used to setting up complicated stuff on Slackware but there doesn't seem to be any guides or help on even the simple translation of "Yahoo ID=PidginAlias" for example. Please help me out soon, I need to connect to my new workplace. Thanks |

Whow, I find slackware hard. Still installing OpenOffice. |
Thanks mongoosecage,
Looks like I'm up and working. If you need some Slackware help there is a member called Khipux that's just signed up that can probably help. I got all of my slackware info from him/her on another forum which seems to have disappeared, but I'm sure they won't mind me referring them... |
Doesn't look like I need the new members thread then;o)
