Pico wont run unless I execute it via dot slash, WHY?

I just installed pine and everything is good.

Except I want to use pico, but just typing pico at the prompt does not work it says command not found. I have to execute ./pico. Any ideas why?

pico is set to chmod 755. Thanks.

Because to execute a command you have to give it the full path. ./ is simply a shortcut for say /home/someuser/pico. Alternatively if you just want to type pico put a link to it in your $PATH which is probably /usr/bin. (There are actually several so pick one)
Code:
echo $PATH
