phpMyAdmin error - "Could not load

I'm attempting to upgrade my installation of phpMyAdmin

I've installed and configured the config.inc.php file as described by the documention.

However when I attempt to run phpMyAdmin I get this error:
Could not load any language, please check your language settings and folder
I did some searching in google and didn't find anything useful (some links had content in german, which doesn't help me), and I didn't find any info on here about this as well.

I checked the language settings in the config.inc.php file and everything seems normal.

What am I doing wrong? Did I miss a step?

Why do you updrade?

Just download the latest version of the phpmyadmin and use it.
backup the old version folder in the document root and install the new one.

Try this and use it unless you must upgrade not to install a fresh new one.

I should have been more descriptive.

I did simply rename the old installation folder appended with "_old" and simply placed the clean copy in the phpMyAdmin folder and updated the config file for the new version.

either way, for some reason there is something going on with the languages settings in the ./library/select_lang.inc.php file. I tried to trace the error in that file and couldn't figure out why the 'DefaultLang' paramater in the cfg settings variable is showing up as blank even though i'm explicity setting it in the main config file.
