php wont talk to postgresql

I've compiled php to use postgresql, it was working but for no apparent reason it does not connect to the postgresql database anymore. It also wont connect to my sybase database. It doesnt display any errors.

How can I fix this?
Also, is there a file where php errors are stored maybe I can find the error in there?

I'm using PHP4.3.1
