PHP with MySQL Support not working : mysql.sock

Hi,

im having some problems to get mysql working with php..
im running fedora core6 (without gui)
ive installed httpd, php, php-mysql (to support mysql under PHP)
ive installed it with yum:
yum install httpd
yum install php
yum install php-mysql

The MySQL server is installed on a remote host.

when im trying to connect to the database server with a php script it says: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)

if im searching with google the only answere i get is install mysql server :S but i dont want that..

someone had the same problem and knows the answere? please help!..

gr DID,

Yes, or at least similar. After finding that, indeed, there was no mysql.sock in that location, I made a symlink to where it really was, which was someplace entirely different. That succeeded. Now, on a remote server? Hmm, I don't know.

damn im doing somthing wrong but i dont know what..
ive done a reinstall of fedora core and it still doesnt work :S..
installed fedora core 5 because i had it running on fedora core 5..

if i go to a shell en type mysql -h <remote hostname> -u root -p
i can login perfect, so the mysql server is not the problem.

is there no1 having this problem? :s
