PHP Editor for Linux
On Windows I was using PHPCoder to do my PHP coding, but since PHPCoder doesn't have a Linux Release, I'm looking for a new program that can do syntax highlighting and stuff for PHP. Anyone know where I can get a PHP editor like this?
Thanks in advance, shimano55 |
If you are using KDE you may enjoy kdevelop, but otherwise give emacs a go. It's quite useful.

Emacs does syntax highlighting. On KDE, KATE and kwrite also have very good syntax highlighting for php. I tend to use Quanta Plus though.

I am using KDevelop.. and although its an excellent C/C++ dev tool, in php it can be characterised as average. It does some highlighing, but its very basic, and it also provides some basic function commenting.
But its not compared to other windows IDEs, i would like to see some of them ported for linux. |
You might want to take a look here:
http://www.php-editors.com/ I use scite. It does the key word high-lighting ect. I is very lightweight and fast. |
I've been using Quanta Plus for PHP editing for about 6 months now - I highly recommend it (and I don't even use KDE as my Window Manager ;) )

/me tried quanta, kdevelop, scite and kate.
Finally, I stuck with Kate. She (yes, I know... ) is a very intelligent young woman who can quench all my desires for code-completion, syntax highlighting, file renaming (built in shell), commenting, having-more-files-open-at-a-time-in-tabs editing, + it can toggle function and code part visibility (scite style... only scite screwed it up a lot of times, kate doesn't, however.) I'd recommend them in this order: Kate, SciTe, Quanta (some issues with highlighting, also a resource-hog to an unknown reason), kdevelop (very basic for scripting languages, otherwise a great environment). -=------=- DO - NOT - READ - FOLLOWING -=-------=- Don't get me wrong Kate, I love you for what you do, but i do have a GF and I pledge my allegeance to her. [slap]. Auch! That hurt! Slap back. [K Error handler pops up. Trace shows physical demage] Oh oh... Are you oh-right honey? I will never slap you again. I love you, after all... [Slap] Not you too llun! Yes I will call you tonight! Love you... oh god i'm a madman :D --- Please note the above is a joke :D |
Where can someone get Kate from.. she looks nice :P

kate is included in KDE. If you want it outside kde, you can use the kde separate ebuilds (if on gentoo).
Otherwise, try downloading it from kde site, you'll have to figure it out for yourself :D. |
I c.. its indeed very nice!

Bluefish might do it for you as well. I like it (got it because of the php and css abilties).
