php + apache problems

yes i have searched the board for this but i could not find anyone with my problem...
it's slack 9 apache 1.3.27 and php 4 and everything is fine and i've followed instructions from a post here on linuxquestions and successfully gotten apache to work and mysql to start and work but now the inststructions said add a few thing in httpd.conf for php to work so i added all the things and php still would not work and i noticed i added two lines that specified files one was something.so and the other was mod_php4.c so the first file was in the right place no problems there but mod_php4.c is not on this system at all.

so i was thinking if i could get someone elses mod_php4.c file and just put it in the right dir and see if that works and if anyone has something to say that will help me i would appriciate it.
