Question PHP & InterBase can not create interbase.so

Hello, I am try'n to provide Interbase 6.5 access to PHP 4.1 and when I compiled as required by PHP 4.1 to include InterBase It did not generate any "interbase.so" file that i should be copy'n to the /usr/lib folder.

setup or what I have now:

(1) Red Hat 7.3
(2) PHP 4.1.2 but i only the source code for 4.1.1
(3) Apache 1.3.23 running
(4) InterBase version 6.5 (running)

command issued after I have place the source code of PHP 4.1.1 on a folder was:

./configure --with-interbase=/opt/interbase

however; it was advised that i should have issued something like

./configure --with-interbase=/opt/interbase --with-apxs

but with this statement i get Error during the "Make" process

Please advise how to go about this case and Thank You, very, very much.....

Cheers!
