personal news server?

I read email and newsgroups with Kontact. I have to use a free news server because I cannot get the authentication information for my ISP. I tried posting today and wasn't allowed to. I'm sure there are other ways around this, but...

Can I set up my own news server on my system? I did some searching on the web and just got more confused... I'm running slackware.

Your question is missing a bunch of stuff so it doesn't make much sense to me.

You probably need to pay a company that provides the service your ISP has failed to provide.

Google is your friend in this situation.
