Permissions problems....
 

Hi again guys...
I'm a total newbie in linux...
I runnig mandrake 9.1.
I really want to learn how to setup permissions, so i can setup the software that i want...
When i trie to install the nvidia drivers, it says that i have to had root permission and the software must be run as root...
Can any one give the steps in a sinple whay?
Who can i configure mi permission...
I cant even wright in :/usr/games
Another thing is; is there any opsions to ajust the monitor image in with/heigth?
Man linux rocks, i having a bad time to learn but i relly liking it...
I havent learn nothing hyet, but i'm counting with you guys to help me...

If you want to install something in the system you have to be root, don't give a user that kind of permissions. Just type su in the konsole and then the password.
To adjust the monitor image, I think you mean, to adjust the resolution, I think, I'm not using mandrake now, you have to click in the control center and there you can adjust, I think you have to be root also for that.
Hope this helps.

Also, if you want to write in /usr/games you have to be root, you can change the owner using the chown command and give it to some user, but it's better to keep the owner as root.

Now, what i mean about the monitor, its to move the monitor image to left, rigth, up and down, without having to change the setting in the monitor itself, because it is allredy arranged for Windows...

hmm, I'm not sure about that but I would say that it's not possible to do it, The image position should be the same for both O.S

Look for an application called "xvidtune". Offset display like you have is caused by slightly-wrong refresh rates. You can adjust these refresh rates in xvidtune, and see how they affect your display.

xvidtune will create a ModeLine entry which you will need to paste into your XF86Config file in order to make your changes permanent.
