pengaol

firstly i must apologise to you and myself for i am an aol user. i am currently using slackware with a dial up modem (i use mostly lynx so speed isnt an issue) with uklinux as my pay as i use isp. i dual boot with windows and use aol platinum unlimited broadband with a usb modem. if i was to use pengaol with slackware would i be charged fo the joy or would my current aol subscription suffice? i have tried to ask aol people but as its not an aol product they wont tell me.
thank you

You should be able to use your current subscription with pengAOL. However, as you have found, AOL is absolutely no help with Linux related questions or problems.

Many of us intuitively believe that AOL would not be leading the charge in helping with Linux or OpenSource.
For the unwashed, sould you tell us what is pengAOL and why would you run into problems with AOL in using it?

pengAOL is only a dialup application for connecting to AOL. Its only function is to log on to the service and provide internet access. You will not be charged extra.

I assume your using dialup because your modem is not supported in linux?

I'm going to inject a rude comment with no malice intended. I am playing off a stereotype of AOL users that I recognize is not 100% accurate.

If you are smart enough to try Linux, then you also are smart enough to dump AOL.

I acknowledge my transgressions in advance in the event that cogent arguments are presented which credibly discredit my assertion.......

my broadband modem is supported by eciadsl but configuring that is a nightmare (to me at least) and i gave up with fed 4. i will try again now im using slack.

where i live (uk) aol is not so bad. offers me 2mb for £25. other isp's offered me up to 8mb for the same but my local te;ephone exchange will only support up to 2mb and aol are the only ones who mentioned this. in this case i wonder what else the other isp's are hiding.
its easy for my woman to use too

If pengAOL doesn't work (I'm not real sure it is actively supported) I know that Linspire is working on an open source AOL dialer. They don't offer much in the way of installation support since they want you to pay for that, but the source code is available.
