PDF --> EPUB. Software?
Does Anything do pdf --> epub?
I have slackware-14.0, and xfce. No high cholesterol WMs, but I did install the libs, and am not afraid of source code. I also have Android 4.x and the libreoffice epub plugin. So, I suppose libreoffice <-- pdf might get me there. I'm doing Electronics, and this year's lecturers are dtp technophopbes :-/. |

Now your needs may be different than mine were...I was asked to look into batch-processing over 20k scientific journal articles. |

The two tools that you'll use to build ePubs are calibre and sigil.
Neither one will take you "directly from a PDF to an ePub." And, I submit, there's a reason for that . . . the two targets are, inherently, very different. One is a printed page. The other is a web-browser. However, both of them, put together, can produce publishable ePubs. Takes a bit of learning-curve but it works. |

And thanks, sundialsvcs...I hadn't heard of sigil before, and will check into it. |
Edit: What does the pdf --> something conversion best?
Thanks, Guys, Alien Bob has slackware packages for Sigil and Calibre, and I grabbged them, so I am positioned on the bottom of the learning curve, and weĺl see how I get on from there. My input is: A few of my own documents; a number of m$.doc, m$.docx, and M$.docx or ppt --> pdf with standard windows fonts, heavy on mathematical formulae and usually lacking any table of contents. If I get time to give this a decent shot, I'll report back on my success or lack of it. The other awkward one is references where a number isn't good enough. I would like to be able to insert more varied references - say to a scripture from the bible with a link back to the text, or a descriptive title for the reference. I have mastered TOC, and footnotes/endnotes in Libreoffice. So I have some way to go. |
