PCManFM file manager in Linux Mint 17.3, or maybe Dolphin
I have Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa Cinnamon.
I prefer PCManFM to the default of Nemo, but - 1) How do I get "move" as an entry in the right-click context menu? It has "copy" and "move to trash" but not "move"? 2) How do you search for files in a directory (including sub-directories)? 3) One of the menus already offers the option of going back to the previous location, and this can be done over and over again. Is there any way of getting it to display a menu of past locations? 4) How do I set it as the default file manager in Mint 17.3 Cinnamon? Mint 17.3 allows you to change lots of other preferred applications, but I have not found how to change the default file manager? Currently Nemo is the default. I would prefer to use PCManFM, or else perhaps Dolphin. 5) What operating systems have PCManFM or Dolphin installed as default or make it easy to make either of them the default file manager? Thanks. Edit: It has occurred to me that something almost as good as replacing the default file manager would be to have a clickable icon to my favoured manager on the desktop, if possible in replacement rather than in addition to the icon for the default manager. And also in the bar thing at the bottom of the desktop. How do I create these clickable icons please? |
I have found out how to put an icon for any program on the desktop and lower desktop bar - right click on the program in the Menu and select from the actions offered.

The default file manager, you get with said distro, would depend on the desktop environment installed. So, for example, if you were talking about PCLinuxOS (yes, because it's the one I use myself,so that's how I know), then KDE would be the default desktop environment installed and therefore, Dolphin would be the default file manager installed (as part of the KDE installation).
Hope this helps. BTW. I personally prefer Dolphin, myself. |
