pclos install wont start x
 

im trying to load the newest 2012.08 dvd. by default its loading the nvidia driver but this end up in 1 horizontal bar and several vertical bars, no actual image.

i tried using the following drivers:

vesa(works on stackware 14.1): screens found but no usable configurations

nouveau(works in pclos 2011): no devices detected

nv(another nvidia driver that i read may work):the pci device 0x10de0176 (geforce4 420 go 32m) at 01@00:00:0 has a kernel module claiming it

accourding to lspci its an nforce3 chipset and the card is agp. its a geforce4 440 accourding to the laptop specs

Try booting to runlevel 1 and running /usr/bin/nvidia-settings to see if it can generate configurations the laptop can use.
